OUR STORY

The remarkable history behind Cambridge Grains

In the late 1970s, at 33 Abergeldie Way (formerly Hannon Road), Russell and Jill Mathers established a Horse Motel and retail store. The concept was simple but forward-thinking: travelling equine enthusiasts could accommodate their horses on site and purchase feed while away from home. Remnants of this original business can still be seen today, with the original stable floors and markings visible throughout the retail and warehouse areas.

Unfortunately, the Horse Motel was not financially viable and was eventually closed. In the early 1980s, the store was sold to Eric Betty, who owned and operated the retail business for several years. During the 1980s, the business was then purchased by David Snowden and a business partner. Just 12 months later, David took over full ownership and began growing Cambridge Grains into the trusted business it is today.

Tragically, David passed away suddenly on May 13, 2021. His daughter Chanel, alongside her husband Jamie, has since taken over the reins, continuing his legacy and passion for quality nutrition and customer service.

Today, Cambridge Grains is widely recognised within the racing, sporthorse, and lifestyle equine industries for manufacturing fresh, high-quality, complete feeds.

With an extensive range of feeds, supplements, and a highly knowledgeable team, Cambridge Grains prides itself on providing independent feed recommendations — always focused on finding the right solution for the individual horse.

Beyond equine nutrition, Cambridge Grains is a true one-stop feed shop for all animal owners. The store stocks feed for horses, cows, sheep, goats, chickens, dogs, cats, and birds. If it’s not on the shelf, the team can order it in. The pet food range includes dry food, fresh frozen options, and treats.

Customer service remains at the heart of everything Cambridge Grains does. The team is committed to helping customers make informed choices for their animal family members. And if you’re short on time or space, delivery options are available — making quality nutrition easy and accessible.
